Atv Update

The 2011-model Yamaha Grizzly 450 - featured in the November issue of 4x4 Mart - is now on sale, featuring such improvements as a weight reduction, better ergonomics, a new one-piece frame and a redesigned wet brake system. And the launch also sees a new version making its debut: the Grizzly 450 EPS, claimed to be the worlds first mid-class up-to-450cc ATV with electronic power steering.

Like the bigger Grizzly 700, the Grizzly 450 incorporates Yamaha's Ultramatic transmission system, which utilises both a centrifugal and a one-way clutch, minimising belt slippage and providing superior engine braking, allowing riders to tackle steep downhill gradients with confidence.

The 450's SOHC two-valve engine is a well-proven unit, offering plenty of low-end torque for tough jobs around the farm or steep climbs on the trail. And the engine now benefits from a higher-output AC generator assembly, with new rotor and regulator, resulting in 39 per cent more output at 3000rpm. With a maximum output of over 320W, a full battery load is guaranteed, and plenty of power is available for operating winches or other electrical equipment.
