Your best investment would be a wideband air fuel ratio meter for your car. They have really come down in price and will give you instant feedback on the fuel mixture going into your engine. We've now used about four of the AEM Digital Wideband Air Fuel UEGO Gauge kits PN 30-4100 in our own race cars, and several of our friends' cars. This completely takes the guesswork out of dialing in the fuel mixture of either a carbureted or EFI system. We prefer the digital gauge, because at a glance you can see the air fuel going down the track. They utilize a very quick-responding Bosch wideband oxygen sensor for optimum accuracy and reliability. Another really nice feature is that the sensor has a 0-5V output to be used with data loggers, so that can interface with your race car data logger or laptop EFI tuning software. SOURCE

This month's summer issue proved to be a challenge for me in terms of editorial content, and it seems I bit off more than I could chew. My promise to offer in-depth technical coverage on how to efficiently cool your car had me working late hours, as I sat behind my laptop and HB Speed's dyno, calculating various temperature parameters and analyses of aftermarket radiators. With the aid of former Sport Compact Car editor Joey Leh and Jon from HB Speed (thanks guys), we were able to complete our testing in a limited time frame with some interesting results. Successful testing doesn't occur overnight, and I found myself searching through a number of books and reputable sources to better understand some of the more complex theories that revolve around an engine's cooling system.

The swept-back headlights are a neat touch but the grille just puts me off. It's like a Weber braai. Shift focus away from that and it's all nods. To fire the EFI system and get the 383 running, we connected the communications cable that links the handheld with the main wiring harness. Since the EZ-EFI handheld serves as the user interface with the EZ-EFI system, you'll need to answer a few questions during the setup. The good news is the handheld system uses a simple menu system that offers advanced features without requiring a laptop or any computer skills. Once the Setup Wizard tasks have been completed, the engine can be fired up. It also serves as a scan tool by displaying live data and diagnostic information. Beyond the basic setup and scanning functions, it offers the ability to adjust other settings to suit the engine, including the rev limiter and target air fuel ratios.
