Known for their kooky show cars, Rinspeed has revealed a concept that's alarmingly sane, a back-to-basics vehicle with retro '70s styling that is to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year. Called BamBoo, the four-seater focuses on simplicity. The concept, which measures 3.9m in length, uses a steel and composite-polymer chassis and is said to resemble an upsized golf cart, features an open-top layout for both lightness and light, bamboo-fibre trim and an electric powertrain.

With power at 54kW and torque of 140Nm, die one-tonne wonder is said to reach 50km/h in 4.7sec and top out at 120km/h. A lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack evidendy gives the vehicle a range of just over 100km when cruising at 90km/h. Continuing with the green theme, there's a dedicated spot for a foldable two-wheeler should the battery drain dry. PC

LAMBORGHINI has suggested that its exching Sesto Elemento concept from the recent Paris Motor Show could be put into production as a track-only special. Compary boss Stephan Winkelmann said that I arrhorghini is increasingly likely to make several examples of the Sesto Elemento, which uses Superleggera running gear hut s made from a new material called

Cayenne's mini-me

Porsche intends to build a baby Cayenne, to be known as the Cajun. The new crossover will be based on Audi Qb mechanicals and will come on stream as early as 2013, competing with the likes of BMW's X3 and Land Rover's Evoque. The German car maker is hoping to double annual sales to 150,000 units in the next few years, so the Cajun will play an important role in achieving this goal.

The board describes the new vehicle as an 'efficient and sporty model' that will feature typical

Porsche characteristics, such as light weight, easy handling and an agile demeanour.

The Cajun will represent an alternative to the Boxster as an entry-level Porsche, attracting new and younger customers to the brand. As it is being rolled out as a world car, both left-and right-hand drive versions are likely to be co-developed. Given Q5 pricing, it is possible the Cajun will be the first Porsche to sell here for less than six figures. PC
