Peugeot's newbies

PEUGEOT'S SMALL-CAR line up is about to get much smaller, as just one 207 model is to be offered. The 207 Première Auto features 16-inch alloys and side airbags, and has earned itself a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Power comes from a 1.6-litre petrol-fired four mated to a conventional four-speed automatic. If you can get in fast enough, you can beat the GST price rise and bag it for $26,990; or a further $2000 buys you one with an upgraded leather-trimmed interior.

Next year, a racier 308 will be added to the list. Peugeot New Zealand will offer just 10 of the go-faster GTi models, priced at $49,990 and powered by the firm's 1.6-litre petrol turbo in its full 147kW tune, mated exclusively to a six-speed manual. Expect chassis tuning, with larger brakes, 18-inch alloys and a bit of a body-kit. We'll tell you how it performs in the next issue. EC
