Pimp Your Ford

Back in the 1960s, Galpin Ford sold just two 4x4 trucks a year, one at the beginning of hunting season and the other during year-end clearance, according to Bert Boeck-mann, owner of the Southern California dealership. Looking to move the needle somehow, Boeckmann agreed when an employee asked if he could fix up some of the trucks like the kids are doing. The dealership started adding wild paint jobs, lift kits, big tires, light bars, and more and sales exploded to more than 25 trucks per month.

Head Games

My own experience has taught me that the reflexes I still have, even after several years out of the seat, are intact. A recent event proved that point to me. Early in December 2010, I was rolling along Highway 163 in Southeast Iowa, ironically, less than a mile from the exit for Eddyville Raceway Park - one of the few racetracks that I know of that has its own exit from a four-lane highway. Let me interject an interesting fact here - it's deer hunting season in Iowa, and many other states for that matter. Iowa, along with Michigan, are two of the states harvesting the greatest numbers of deer during hunting season - over 100,000 bagged in each state. A friend of mine who does insurance claims adjusting said there were over 12,000 vehicle-deer accidents in Iowa last year. Insurance companies have been considering not covering car-deer accidents due to the sheer volume and damage they cause. I think you see where I'm headed. Anyway, I've digressed.

Texassize Appetite

My dad has a 1976 Chevy truck that he keeps on our ranch. It's a 5.7-liter V-8 2-do or and is really beat up. It sits most of the time and is really driven only on weekends during the winter hunting season. The gas tank is always kept full and it has been well maintained and runs great. It is never driven over 40 mph (nearly all driving is done on dirt ranch roads). This past weekend we drove it no more than 15 or 20 miles over a span of three days and it used six gallons of gas. The gas tank has been checked for leaks multiple times and found nothing. So, how or why might it be so inefficient

Hunting Mastery Selected Tips

Deer hunting is an interesting thing that reminds you of those golden old ages of 19th centuries, where a handsome hunk well equipped with all hunting material rides on horse searching for his target animal either for the purpose of displaying his masculine powers or for enticing and wooing his lady love.
