The first of the Custom/Special, fitted with metal side panels, seven spoke alloys, hinged seat tubular chromed grab rail, points ignition and 38mm CV carbs. The SE designation appears to have been used for all examples sold in the UK regardless of spec or build. R.O.W received year on year on year upgrade; Vintage Burgundy and New Midnight Black.
Clutch/starter interlock fitted, drum rear brake and spoked cobweb pattern' wheels used. Model now sold as Heritage Special. RHS engine case now fitted with oil level window. Seat heavily stepped; New Yamaha Black, New Ruby Red and Frost Silver. XS650H 1981 version of G model; Indigo Blue & New Ruby Red.
34mm carbs replace 38mm units Carmine Red and Black Gold. 1979-80 machines available as Special or Special II. Special runs alloy wheels and disc brake front and rear. Special II features spoked wheels and a rear drum brake.
