[¡<■■1981 GSX250EX won't pull kfl mre than 70mph in top, but will CfTOHTTTph in fifth (I've heard they'll do 90). It's as if it's over-geared, but the gearing is standard. A plug chop looks OK anc there are new plugs and air filter. The valve clearances are OK too. Other than this it runs well. Any thoughts?

4 ^ Js difference in top speeds is trmal for some bikes. The aim is W JJ/UlMUe an overdrive gear at the top end of the range to gives better fuel economy for cruising and a lower gear for better performance. You could alter this to your own preference by changing a sprocket. As far as the lack of performance is concerned, this might be caused by a number of things, such as lack of compression, general wear, binding brakes or (possible but unlikely) a pessimistic speedometer.
